Heavenly Bodies es una exploración geométrica en torno a la figura del círculo y el punto de partida de la investigación sobre la luz aparente. Obras en negro y azul sobre blanco: cuerpos celestes que no se representan, se construyen.
Cada obra parte de un módulo geométrico simple, repetido miles de veces con variaciones mínimas, hasta formar un sistema mayor y más complejo que la regla que lo genera: densidades que se acumulan, halos que se abren y, en algunas piezas, la aparición de luz donde solo hay tinta sobre papel. El resultado tiene dos distancias de lectura. De lejos, los círculos se presentan como cuerpos casi sólidos que flotan en el blanco; de cerca, el cuerpo se disuelve y queda a la vista el sistema: el módulo, la trama, la regla. El tránsito entre una lectura y la otra ocurre en el espectador que se acerca.
El trabajo se inscribe en la tradición del arte óptico, pero llega a ella por el camino del cálculo. La tensión entre el orden matemático que sostiene cada composición y la realidad inestable y etérea que aparece frente a los ojos se abre aquí y no se cierra: el círculo, el patrón y el trabajo óptico de esta exposición decantarán más tarde en Astros, Dispositivo Dinámico y Cosmos.
Heavenly Bodies is a geometric exploration of the circle and the starting point of the inquiry into apparent light. Works in black and blue on white: heavenly bodies that are not depicted but built.
Each work begins with a simple geometric module, repeated thousands of times with minimal variations, until it forms a system larger and more complex than the rule that generates it: densities that accumulate, halos that open and, in some pieces, the appearance of light where there is only ink on paper. The result holds two reading distances. From afar, the circles present themselves as almost solid bodies floating on white; up close, the body dissolves and the system comes into view: the module, the weave, the rule. The passage from one reading to the other happens in the viewer who approaches.
The work inscribes itself in the tradition of optical art, but arrives there by way of calculation. The tension between the mathematical order sustaining each composition and the unstable, ethereal reality that appears before the eyes opens here and does not close: the circle, the pattern and the optical inquiry of this exhibition would later distill into Astros, Dispositivo Dinámico and Cosmos.
